Prologue

I hereby present the prologue to my One Piece cyberpunk epic. I count a total of 19 references to One Piece characters -- actually, come to think of it, Roger's wife Hitomi is the only character in this chapter I made up entirely. Oh, and the thugs and guards too. But they hardly count. This chapter itself is really just an introduction of the basic setting and plot.

I want to thank everyone who reviewed the short introduction that I posted to FF.net. Shaoli, in fact, gave me an idea for improving my Zoro's character design. I'll talk about that more in the author's note for the first chapter, where he will be introduced. Also, big thanks to Nik and Memphis Lupine, who both proofread the first draft of this a while ago. Your comments really helped me improve this piece.

Incidentally, I recently picked up the book GURPS Cyberpunk, which has been instrumental in giving me ideas for future chapters. If you've never heard of it, GURPS is a pen-paper-and-dice roleplaying system which aspires to be "one set of rules that works for all genres." (Plus it's fun to say.) Perhaps I'll include GURPS versions of the characters with future chapters.

Next time on "Project O.N.E.," Luffy gets himself arrested, chats with Nami, and runs across the bounty hunter Roronoa Zoro. Not precisely in that order.
